Mine Contractors

In early May 2007, the Company signed a 5-year mining contract with Moolman Mining Botswana (Pty) Ltd, an operating group of Aveng Limited. The contract provides for both the mobilisation and demobilisation of the mining fleet which, at full contingent, will consist of three face-loading shovels and twenty-six 100-tonne haul trucks. Mobilisation began with the arrival of six scrapers in the first quarter of 2007 and continued with the arrival of an additional six scrapers in mid-June 2007. This scraper fleet has focused on the pre-stripping of the top several metres of the surface black cotton soil and weathered sub-surface bedrocks to expose the pit working surface. Through this pre-stripping process, the Company is targeting the stockpiling of 180,000 to 210,000 tonnes of material prior to the commissioning of the 1-million tonne-per-year concentrator, now under construction.

Site Infrastructure

African Copper's mine has been formally named the Mowana Mine in honour of the Baobab tree ("Mowana tree" in the local language) that stands near the entrance to the property.

Archaeological Aspects

As part of the agreement that governs the on-going requirements to hold the 25-year mining lease that was granted to African Copper in December 2006, all areas of archeological interest that have been identified on the property covered by the mining lease, including areas of artifacts remaining from historical mining operations. Identified sites are examined by third party archeological consultants and reports must be compiled for historical records. During the second quarter of 2007, conditional development permits were issued on areas near the main development area to allow African Copper to work through these ancient mine excavations, which may date from several hundred years ago.
